Thai Airways International’s Catering Services Department has been awarded the OHSAS 18001:2007 certificate for occupational health and safety at airports.

The award was announced on Friday 29th August 2008. It covers THAI health and safety at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports.

Mrs. Pismai Chandrubeksa, Managing Director, Catering Services Department said awarding of the certificate was due to the hard work of the THAI staff.

“They have been working on documentation and the working environment for the safety and convenience of staff. I am very proud of their efforts and those of the management team,” Mrs. Chandrubeksa said.

Mr. Udomdej Kongtaveelert, Managing Director, Bureau Veritas Certification (Thailand) said I would like to congratulate THAI Catering Services Department for the success achieved today. THAI Catering Services Department is the first airline caterer in Thailand that certified for Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series, OHSAS 18001:2007. OHSAS 18001:2007 or Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series is an international standard certification first used in 1999 [OHSAS 18001:1999.] The OHSAS standard was updated in 2007 and is presently used as OHSAS 18001:2007.

The OHSAS 18001:2007 covers:

1. The safety and prevention of accidents for staff at work
2. Saves costs in the event of an accident.

With the awarding of OHSAS 18001:2007 THAI staff at the Catering Services Department at Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports can help ensure higher standards of safety and health for staff. It can also contribute to greater cooperation and loyalty between THAI and its customer airlines.
