THAI Increases Flights to Hyderabad, Republic of India


Thai Airways International Public Company Limited increased flights on the route Bangkok – Hyderabad v.v., Republic of India, to 5 flights per week, effective 15 January 2008 onwards.

Mr. Pandit Chanapai, THAI’s Executive Vice President for Commercial, said that THAI as the national carrier views the Republic of India as a country of high importance for conducting business and tourism, which is reason why the company began operating the route Bangkok – Hyderabad on 30 October 2006, operating 3 flights per week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.  The flights proved successful on this route, however there were not enough routes to serve passenger needs. Therefore, in order to expand in the market areas of airline business, sales, and I.T. for Thailand and India, which experience continual growth.  Furthermore, there is growth in the amount of business and tourist travel from India, with passengers favoring travel to conduct business and travel in Thailand.  The company therefore has increased flights on the route Bangkok –Hyderabad v.v. to 5 flights per week, on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, utilizing Airbus A300-600 aircraft on flight TG329, departing from Bangkok at 20.35 hours, arriving in Hyderabad at 22.50 hours (local time) and flight TG330 departing from Hyderabad at 23.55 hours (local time), arriving in Bangkok at 04.55 hours (the following day), as of 15 January 2008 onwards.

Mr. Philip Vira Bunnag, THAI’s Director for South Asia and Middle East Region, said that Hyderabad is an important economic center for the Republic of India and the 5th largest city in the country, which is modern and renown as Second Silicon Valley, second only to Bangalore.  In addition, the city is an important air transportation center in Southern India and is important for THAI to continue to support with a total of 5 flights per week, in order to further develop and expand in THAI’s airline business conducted in South Asia with increased performance. Expanding flights will also aid in profitability, expanding THAI’s aviation market in the Asia and South Asia region to strengthen, which includes expansion of the I.T. customer market, overseas tourism market from India to Thailand.  Furthermore, Hyderabad serves as the center for connecting THAI’s flights from Southern India into Thailand to other destinations operated by the company, especially Los Angeles, U.S.A., Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Sydney, and Melbourne, Australia.

Currently, THAI operated flights to 6 destinations in the Republic of India, those being Delhi, Calcutta, Mumbai, Chennai, and Hyderabad.
